The younger generation -- and perhaps soon all of us -- are paying more attention to video than text. The California Department of Motor Vehicles is thus turning to YouTube and MySpace to improve traffic safety as described by the NY Times today HERE.
I've done some work over the years for the CA DMV, but this approach was not available a few years ago when I was out there. Looks worth exploring to me. I wonder if they've captured usage data to assess the efficiency of this mode of communication.
Also, looking at that story reminded my of a problem when I was Budget Director for Boston. There was a family in West Roxbury that complained to the City about a drastic rise in their water bill. Since they worked in town and were not home all day, they weren't using extra water and thought it must be a mistake. But when they visited the house with a City inspector, they found the problem. It was exactly as illustrated here.
Having caught the culprit, the solution was easy...
