A few months ago we made some observations on the resignation of Larry Summers as Harvard President: HERE.
Questions of governance in a very cross-boundary world are clearly important and difficult. When are you pushing too hard? When not hard enough?
Summers had some thoughts in a recent Wired article: HERE.
Note in particular his comment about the frequency at which the Faculty of Arts and Sciences has created or eliminated departments (none in the last 35 years).
What would be the right measure of the degree to which the University is adapting appropriately to new conditions in the world it tries to serve?
If such issues of governance have interest, consider coming to our September 13-14 workshop on new models and institutions of governance. More HERE.
Summer's here. Enjoy!!!
